Microsoft has unveiled a new line of Windows PCs equipped with advanced AI hardware, branded as Copilot+ PCs. These devices are claimed to be the fastest PCs Microsoft has ever created, featuring all-day battery life and chips capable of handling 40 trillion operations per second, along with access to cutting-edge AI models.
AI-Focused Design
The Copilot+ PCs are engineered with AI at their core, enabling on-device AI experiences that reduce latency and enhance privacy. Key features include:
- Recall – This feature provides the PC with a “photographic memory,” allowing users to retrieve any content they’ve interacted with on their device. Users can locate information using timelines across websites, applications, or documents, supported by snapshots.
- Cocreator – Utilizes text prompts to generate images via the computer’s neural processing units. It includes a creativity slider that lets users choose between more literal or more expressive art.
- Restyle Image – Merges image generation with photo editing, offering pre-set styles to modify backgrounds, foregrounds, or entire images.
- Live Captions – This feature provides real-time translations, converting any audio passing through the PC into English captions. It supports live or pre-recorded audio from any app or video platform and translates from 40 languages into English.
- Quick Settings – Integrated within Windows Studio Effects, Quick Settings enhance video calls by automatically adjusting image settings to compensate for low-light conditions or by applying filters.
Enhanced AI Capabilities
Every Copilot+ PC comes with a dedicated AI agent accessible via a single tap on the Copilot key. This AI interface supports the latest models, including OpenAI’s GPT-4o.
Microsoft asserts that Copilot+ PCs surpass the 15-inch MacBook Air in sustained multithreaded performance by up to 58%, while also offering superior battery life. The battery can last up to 15 hours of web browsing or 22 hours of local video playback, outperforming the MacBook Air M3.
Copilot+ PCs: Availability and Pricing
The new lineup includes the Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, among the first to feature Copilot+ technology. Other manufacturers such as ASUS, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung have also launched their own Copilot+ PCs. These new PCs are available starting today, with prices beginning at $999.
